What About Kids? - Children

At each of our Sunday worship gatherings we have a special "breakout" time just for our younger Enclave friends. They have teaching, songs and games geared just for them. About half way through the gathering, the kids return to the sanctuary to experience worship with their friends and family. We have a a wonderful nursery for our babies and toddlers.

Out desire is to create a situation where our kids have some special activities just for themselves, but are also highly integrated into what the whole group is doing. We also need to be able to reach out to the kids in our neighborhood who have no church connection. You can be praying for our children's team as they continue the work of developing ministry that reflects scripture and the core values of Enclave.

Our desire is to launch a mid-week children's preogram in Fall 2008. We are working to build a children's leadership team that will lead in this effort.

Enclave is a newer church in Turlock that is exploring what it means to follow Jesus in the context of a rapidly changing culture. We are rooted in ancient Christianity and pursuing genuine relationships, creativity and lives that are wrapped around Jesus, not "church culture." For us, that means shedding some things that have been associated with being an "American Christian" and instead, trying to discover a way of life and belief that was modeled by Jesus - His compassion, values and sacrifice.Who we are is much more than a worship gathering, but that would be a great way to begin engaging in this faith community. We have two worship gatherings with the same content - Sunday's at 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. You can expect to find: People engaging in conversation while enjoying coffee and bagels.A multi-generational group of people who are rediscovering an ancient faith and learning what it means for our culture today.People who are passionately in love with Jesus, but not dogmatic, closed-minded or judgemental. Enclave is a place you can belong, connect and ask spiritual questions regardless of where you are in your journey.A simple gathering that includes good music, teaching, and interaction.People and friends you might find a real connection with.We are considering some deep life issues, but there is always plenty of space and time for dialgue and friendship.

Come be part of the community this week! Childcare is available and dress is casual. We would love the opportunity to get to know you.

The Creed - What We Believe

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church (all those who follow Jesus, regardless of the "name" of their particular church fellowship),
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. AMEN.

We will update this section to explain a little bit about our worship gatherings.Why do people move around during the music time and what are worship stations? - We desire to cultivate a worship gathering that is participatory rather than static. We use stations as a way to respond to what God is showing us in the scriptures. These usually require some kind of hands on activity. First, we want people to have the opportunity to connect with God without feeling like they are being watched by others. Second, we also desire to create an atmosphere of reverence and sacred space. Right now, we have an immediate need for more help in the nursery. This is a great opportunity to bless our youngest Enclave friends and give your time to something of great value. Just a note: We are now able to give a free copy of the worship gathering on CD to anyone who serves in the nursery. If you can be available, please contact Miriam McKinstry: mirmckinstry@sbcglobal.net.

What does "Enclave" mean? - Enclave?

The name of our community is significant as it contains within it's meaning some of who we are. Here is the definition of an enclave. en•clave - 1. A distinct territorial, cultural or social unit enclosed within but different from those living in the surrounding area 2. A distinct group that lives or operates together within a larger community.An example of a geographical enclave is the country of Lesotho. Lesotho is an independent country that is completely surrounded by South Africa. It has it's own culture, laws and history but is geographically surrounded on all sides by a larger country. Cultural enclaves exist in many metropolitan areas. For example, in San Francisco you could go to "China Town." This would be a small area within the larger city that has a distinct language and culture. For us, the term Enclave denotes several things. First, we are a unique community within the larger church context - an enclave in the sense of organization. We have no desire to simply replicate what others are already doing. We want to be a unique face of Christ's church.

Secondly, we are an enclave in our relation to the broader culture. We live and operate within that culture and seek to be agents of peace and change, but as Christ-followers, there is a sense of being set apart as well. Our Enclave community should be a place of refuge for those seeking relief from the culture we find ourselves in. Within Enclave, we should find the strength and resources to engage the broader culture.

Our Core Values - Our Core Values

Embody Scripture - We believe the story of God's redemption and calling of all people to Himself is contained in the Holy Scripture. We are not content with knowledge of the Bible, but desire to respond to its teaching in obedience as our authority for living. Our goal is that all in the Enclave community will become "self-feeding", lifelong implementers of God's Word, the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:14-17, James 2:17-18, Hebrews 4:12).

Missional Living - We believe the "church" is not a place we go, rather it is who we are. Jesus has called us to incarnational living. Mission is not something exclusive to a foreign context (although we highly support that), but is foremost to be lived out daily in our lives. In Enclave we have hearts that break for those who have not yet experienced the love and grace of God through Jesus Christ and are compelled to engage as a voice of hope in the culture in which we live. (Matthew 9:35-38, Luke 19:10, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21)

Authentic Community - We believe in intentionally sharing life together and being a people where real community is lived out. Enclave wants to extend arms of acceptance and compassion to others regardless of where they are in their life journey and pursue godliness together. We want to encourage people to be authentic with God and each other by being honest and transparent, not hiding our rough edges and struggles. (Philippians 2:1-4 Romans 12:9-16, Ephesians 4:1-6, James 5:16)

Holistic Worship - We believe God is infinitely creative and that should be reflected in His followers. Enclave wants to reflect the passion, beauty and excellence of creation with innovative ministry and worship. We believe our gatherings should be a time where our senses come to life as we encounter God, the singular focus of our worship. ( Romans 12:1-2, Psalm 95:6-7, Acts 2:44-47, Acts 16:25)

Make Disciples/Be Disciples - We believe developing and releasing disciples should be a primary goal of ours as it was for Jesus. We want to intentionally prepare all in the Enclave community to contribute their gifts and skills through which God accomplishes His mission. We want people to not only learn the ways of God but respond through changed attitudes and transformed conduct. (Matthew 28:19-20, John 13:35, Ephesians 4:12-13, Hebrews 5:11-14)

Revolution - We believe the truths of the Bible are eternal and therefore fitting for every time, place and people, and must always be translated into the current language and culture. We live in a changing society and must be free to think new ideas about what it means to be the church in today's culture. (1 Corinthians 9:20-23, Acts 17:16-34)

Multiplication - We believe Christianity has always expanded through the multiplication of churches and we are committed to reproducing healthy new fellowships - even some that may look radically different from Enclave. We choose to measure growth by our capacity to release members rather than retain them. We understand that all kinds of churches are needed to reach all kinds of people. (Acts 1:8, 8:1-4)Simplicity - We believe in adopting Biblical values into our lives that become the driving force behind how we live out ministry. We are weary of going through the motions of religious trappings without experiencing personal intimacy with God. Enclave does not want to create programs simply to keep people busy with the "activity" of the church. (Matthew 11:28-30, Luke 10:1-4, Psalm 90:17
